The Prep School will give every pupil a full and exciting school experience, the opportunity to achieve more than they thought possible and to develop the intrinsic motivation needed to really ‘reach for the stars’ in order to maximise their potential.
We aim to deliver outstanding learning opportunities through excellent and innovative teaching, where pupils are encouraged to become reflective learners who can create and develop their own targets. Beyond the classroom at our Bangkok Prep School, pupils will be encouraged to explore new disciplines, skills and interests, to give everything a try, and, in doing so, learn to take risks and also to risk failure. It is our belief that we are thus enabling them to find their passions and those ‘things’ that really makes them tick. This passion will thereafter feed into everything else that they do. Most importantly, at Brighton College Prep School, we ensure that pupils are able to do all of this, knowing that they are in a safe, secure and friendly environment.
Children join the Brighton College Bangkok International Prep School in Year 4 where they will continue to have a Class Teacher for the majority of their subjects. This ensures that they feel secure and have a firm base. They will be active members of a Prep School House and will start to be introduced to a more vertical pastoral system and benefit from the interaction with older pupils, who act as role models and mentors.
When they reach Year 5 children are ready for something different and, unlike many other international Prep Schools, specialist teaching is introduced across the curriculum. Children in Year 5 are at the right age to really benefit from this; their thirst for knowledge and love of learning makes them ready for the challenge. The advantage of teachers who are passionate about their subject is invaluable. Children who learn in a science laboratory with a science specialist and have the opportunity to use a dedicated design and technology suite at this age will have a more in-depth learning experience and the opportunities to really explore the practical side of such subjects. This increased level of learning is seen across all our subjects as children are stretched and challenged by teachers who are enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable about their chosen subjects.
Also unique to our Bangkok International Prep School system, and one of the very best things about it, is that, in Year 7, instead of becoming the youngest in the Senior School, pupils begin two years at the top of our Bangkok international Prep School. They become young leaders and role models, gaining enormously from this opportunity. The academic challenge is continued as pupils prepare for their first external examinations and sit the Common Entrance (set by the Independent Schools Examination Board, UK). This is excellent training for our pupils, teaching them the fundamentals of exam technique and revision skills while providing a strong foundation for Senior School and beyond. This sees the pupils complete Key Stage 3 a year earlier than normal thereby allowing them to begin IGCSE courses in Year 9 and so gain invaluable time as they prepare for these all-important exams in the Senior School.
Central to Brighton College Bangkok International Prep School is our innovative curriculum which includes a strong emphasis on wellbeing, an ethos that is woven into all aspects of school life. We believe that the habits children develop during their Prep School years are habits for life: Wellbeing at Brighton College focuses on developing constructive, healthy and mindful habits, which in turn lead to creative thinking, resilience, empathy and respect. Connected to this, is our Young Ambassadors Programme, which seeks to bring relevance to learning through cross-curricular projects that are modelled on real careers, like journalism, running a business, a life in conservation, and more. In short, wellbeing feeds into all aspects of our lives, it feeds into every single subject we teach, and, as such, underpins all we do.
Our pupils will be busy; we want them to find out what they really enjoy doing and where their natural talents lie. They will be encouraged to explore new disciplines, to give everything a try, to take risks and to know how it feels to conquer challenges without fear of failing. They learn to prioritise and to manage their time while maximising their own personal achievement in the classrooms. We believe that finding their passion will in turn support everything else that they do.
All of our pupils will be members of one of our four Houses. Brighton College Houses are the foundation upon which our exceptional pastoral care lies and create a strong feeling of community and belonging for children, parents and staff alike. House Masters and Mistresses along with a dedicated team of Tutors nurture, support, monitor and guide the children, playing an integral part in each child’s life at the College. They will know their strengths and weaknesses, their passions and interests, encouraging and supporting their tutees in order to ensure that every Brighton College pupil is the best that they can be.
Our expectations are high but children rise to these challenges and thrive on the opportunities that they are awarded. We will celebrate all their successes, great and small, as it is our belief that everyone deserves celebration and praise and at Brighton College Bangkok Prep School they will receive it as they grow and develop into motivated, compassionate and confident young people.
In short, Prep School pupils will have an excellent and holistic education whilst broadening horizons and pushing boundaries.
