Our Early Years consists of Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception classes, for children aged 2- 5. Young children learn best through play and our classrooms and outdoor spaces have carefully designed role-play areas for themed learning, modelled on the developmental needs of every child. This focus on learning through play goes hand in hand with building a strong academic base, as children develop the foundations of early reading, writing and maths.
Children in the Upper Pre-Prep (Years 1-3) build on the solid foundations of the Early Years, enjoying the challenge of developing their phonics into spelling skills alongside grammar and punctuation. Reading and writing come alive through thematic approaches that continue across subject boundaries. Maths is related to real world experience with problem solving strategies combining to empower pupils to adapt to unknown and new problems. Science is introduced through enquiry based learning and practical experiences. And the pupils’ curriculum is enhanced by co-curricular activities and theme days. Residential experiences in Years 2 and 3 also help to promote independence and a sense of adventure.
