Sport Scholars are pupils who demonstrate strong sporting performance or potential, a positive attitude to training and feedback, and the motivation to keep developing within their chosen sport.
Our Sport Scholars demonstrate sporting ability alongside commitment, resilience and a genuine ambition to develop their potential. They:
- perform at a high level in one or more sports
- show strong technical, tactical or physical potential
- train consistently and respond positively to coaching
- demonstrate resilience, teamwork and commitment
- represent your current school, club or team with pride
- are motivated to develop beyond your current level
The Sport Scholarship process is designed to be valuable in its own right, offering every applicant meaningful insight into their sporting strengths, potential and future development.
Every applicant will receive:
- individual feedback from the Sport Scholarship assessment and interview
- feedback against the key scholarship criteria
- clear strengths and areas for development
- recommendations for future training and progression
- guidance on how to continue developing as an athlete
Every applicant leaves with useful feedback and clear next steps.
Sport Scholars may have opportunities to:
- set individual development goals
- access specialist coaching and feedback
- develop their understanding of strength, conditioning and recovery
- use performance analysis to improve
- learn more about sports science and nutrition
- access appropriate external sporting opportunities
- support younger athletes and contribute to College sport
- Sporting profile A short summary of their main sport(s), current team or club involvement, representative level and key achievements from the last 2 to 3 years.
- Coach or PE teacher reference Commenting on performance, commitment, teamwork, coachability and potential.
- Supporting evidence Selected results, rankings, certificates or short performance footage where appropriate.
- Practical assessment An observed session assessing technical ability, decision-making, athletic potential, teamwork and response to coaching.
- Scholarship interview A short discussion exploring sporting goals, motivation, resilience, response to feedback and readiness to contribute as a BCBV Sport Scholar.
To ensure they meet the College’s minimum entry requirements: - Academic record Most recent school reports, including Term 3 from the previous academic year and current-year reporting where available.
- CAT4 assessment Applicants will complete a CAT4 assessment organised by the College. CAT4 will help us understand the pupil’s cognitive profile and academic potential. It will be considered alongside all other evidence rather than used as a single scholarship threshold.
Our assessment looks beyond sporting performance to understand each pupil’s potential, approach to development and character as a young athlete.

Sport
Sports scholarships are available for pupils currently in Year 4 | Year 6 | Year 9 | Year 11, with two awards offered at each key stage from Upper Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. Applicants must demonstrate high-level performance in at least one sport at a local, national, or international level.
Creative Art
Creative Art scholarships are available for pupils currently in Year 4 | Year 6 | Year 9 | Year 11, with two awards offered at each key stage from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. Applicants must show strong instrumental or vocal ability, supported by recognised graded examinations.
Academic
Academic scholarships for pupils currently in Year 9 (IGCSE) or Year 11 (A Level) from August 2026 are awarded up to 40% based on assessment results. Successful candidates are motivated, intellectually curious pupils who contribute positively as senior school role models.
