We know that young people who are happy are young people who thrive and we believe the best way of achieving a happy and content community is to instil a culture of kindness, ensuring that everyone feels valued for who they truly are.

Our pupils know that there is a whole world beyond the classroom, and we encourage them to remember that they are a part of society, not apart from it.

Who We Are

Brighton College Schools seek to impart or provide:

  • a love of learning for its own sake;
  • a foundation of knowledge and body of skills with which to understand and question the world we live in and to prepare us, through an innovative approach to education, for the world we are likely to inhabit in the future;
  • an awareness of, and appreciation of, the spiritual dimension in our lives;
  • an enthusiasm for the world beyond the classroom – in particular, sport, music and the performing arts;
  • a respect for difference in others and a recognition that the efforts and achievements of every individual in our community are valued equally;
  • an awareness of the needs of others, and a firm belief that – whatever our age – we can make a difference, locally and globally, right now.
  • In short, we strive to turn out well-educated, tolerant and intellectually curious young adults who are ready to take a full, active and positive role in the life of our country and of our world.

Founded in 1845, Brighton College UK was the first independent school in East Sussex, occupying a significant place in the development of British education.

An early pioneer in teaching modern languages and science, Brighton College was the first to have a science laboratory, a school magazine and a gymnasium.

The College has a long history of being innovative, with all Year 12s taking part in our Entrepreneurship Challenge, Key Stage 3 pupils studying Presentation Skills, and Years 7 and 8 learning the “Story of Our Land” course, which combines History, Geography and other humanity skills alongside a focus on Thailand and the East.
