A Love of Learning

The focus is on building a strong foundation in language through phonics, reading, writing, speaking, listening, and oracy. In the Early Years, emphasis is placed on developing speaking, listening, and comprehension skills in English through a variety of experiences and play-based learning. As pupils progress, they enhance their phonetic awareness, equipping them with the skills to read and write. Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and handwriting are introduced through engaging and thought-provoking lessons, as our pupils become confident writers. Our literacy approach encourages pupils to explore a range of texts through imitation and invention, fostering a love for English through storytelling.

Our maths curriculum fosters numeracy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Through hands-on activities, games and interactive lessons, we aim to develop a love for numbers and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, including number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, measures and statistics that will benefit children as they progress through their academic journey and beyond. Our approach emphasises building confidence, providing real life examples and allowing pupils to explore both manipulatives and written mathematics.

Science is seamlessly integrated into the learning of our Early Years pupils through classroom activities, inquiry, and exploration. The formal curriculum begins in Year 1 with dedicated science lessons that progressively introduce concepts in biology, physics, and chemistry, alongside a strong emphasis on scientific thinking and inquiry. In Years 5 and 6, pupils benefit from specialist science teaching and have the opportunity to learn in dedicated science laboratories, enhancing their practical and investigative skills.

In the Preparatory School, geography and history are taught through our unique Story of Our Land curriculum. Beginning in Year 1, pupils explore a range of exciting themes that introduce them to British, regional, and worldwide history and geography. They develop a passion for discovering the past by learning about different historical periods, key figures, significant events, and their lasting impact on the present. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, pupils deepen their understanding of diverse cultures, environments, and natural phenomena, fostering a greater appreciation for the world around them.

Art is integrated into the learning of our pupils in Pre Nursery and Nursery. From Reception, our art curriculum nurtures a lifelong love for creativity and expression. Young artists begin by exploring colors, shapes, and various art materials through guided activities. As they progress, they are introduced to a broad range of techniques and mediums, empowering them to make informed and imaginative artistic choices as they develop their skills

Our young musicians embark on their musical journey by exploring various instruments, sounds, and songs. As they progress through the year groups, they engage with a diverse repertoire spanning different genres, eras, and cultures. Pupils develop their listening, performing, and composing skills through a range of practical activities. We foster a love for performance across all year groups, with pupils regularly participating in concerts. Beyond music lessons, they also have the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities such as instrumental lessons, choir, and band.

Our PE curriculum promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship while encouraging a lifelong love for physical activity. Through a variety of sports and activities, pupils develop fundamental movement skills, understand the importance of regular exercise, and embrace the values of fair play and healthy competition. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all pupils from Pre-Nursery to Year 6. From Year 3, pupils benefit from an additional PE lesson to further develop their skills. They also have the opportunity to participate in a range of friendly and competitive fixtures across multiple sports.

Swimming is an integral part of our curriculum from Pre-Nursery to Year 6. In the Early Years, pupils build water confidence in our Splash Pool before progressing to the 25m pool from Reception, where they learn various strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. From Year 1 onwards, pupils can further develop their skills and passion for swimming through before and afterschool clubs. Additionally, they have the opportunity to compete against other Bangkok schools throughout the academic year.

Mandarin is taught from Pre Nursery until Year 4. Pupils in Year 5 and 6 can then choose Mandarin as one of their two Modern Foreign Language subjects. Pupils in the Early Years  begin their journey by learning simple greetings,and introductions, singing simple songs and learning vocabulary related to a variety of topics. As pupils progress, pupils become aware of how to listen and respond to sentences in Mandarin. Finally, pupils begin to read and write basic Mandarin characters.

Thai is an essential part of our curriculum, taught from Pre-Nursery through to Year 6. In the Early Years, the focus is on learning Thai through songs, speaking, and listening, as well as recognizing Thai sounds. From Year 1, Thai is delivered through First and Second Language classes, with first-language pupils progressing in Thai writing, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. From Year 5, Thai first-language lessons continue, while non-native speakers engage in Thai Culture lessons. Pupils are further immersed in Thai traditions through regular cultural events such as Loi Krathong, Songkran, and Wai Kru, fostering a deeper appreciation for Thailand’s rich heritage.

Both French and Spanish are offered individually to pupils in Years 5 and 6 as part of their Modern Foreign Languages curriculum. Taught by specialist teachers, pupils quickly develop an understanding of the languages through songs, interactive activities, and a range of speaking and listening exercises. As they progress, pupils expand their skills by learning to write in both French and Spanish, gaining an understanding of vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. In addition to language skills, pupils are exposed to the culture and traditions of both French and Spanish countries.

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 are taught Design and Technology in our purpose built Design and Technology studio. The curriculum is designed to be exciting, with a focus on exploration and hands-on creation. Pupils are introduced to using hand tools and learn about working with various materials in the workshop environment. Pupils are taught how to design 3D objects and produce them using 3D printing technologies. As they advance through the year groups, they learn how to use machinery and work on projects, including creating jigsaw puzzles, laser cutting, smart thermometers and metalworking.

Performing Arts  forms part of the curriculum from Reception, where pupils are introduced to dance and movement. As they progress to Year 3, they incorporate improvisations, imaginative play, reading, and performing scenes into their learning. As they progress through the year groups, pupils develop performance skills, including vocal projection, expression, body language, movement, gesture, stage positioning, group collaboration and stage confidence. Our aim is to provide opportunities for the pupils to showcase their performance skills regularly throughout their school journey

PSHE is an important part of our curriculum and is delivered through activities and circle time in our Early Years classes. Our formal curriculum begins in Year 1 with discussions in the younger year groups focussing on understanding and expressing feelings, developing friendships and reflecting on thought patterns. We also incorporate mindful activities such as yoga, mindful colouring, breathing exercises and journaling into our routines. As pupils progress through the year groups, our lessons emphasise the importance of wellbeing through self-awareness, self-esteem and self-confidence, and promoting moral and social responsibility.
